The drive takes about an hour from where we were staying and was typical of a developing country. There was shards of glass on top of residential walls, roaming dogs, people walking the busy road, and of course road impediments.
The Ciudad del Angel residential neighborhood, from what we were told, should never have been built as the land was not stable for housing. A rain storm in Aug/Sept of 2015 caused the first level of houses to wash into the road, about half the houses have now fallen into the road with the top level of houses threatening to collapse with the next rains. I feel for these people who placed their trust and money into companies that have since disappeared. These people are now homeless and financially ruined.

Hopefully the department of transportation will be able to clean up the debris and build a retaining wall before the next section collapses.
We arrived safely to Casa de Luz and was given a tour.

I had been to the previous daycare which was dark, small, and sad a stark contrast to the new building which was bright, large, clean, and uplifting. It is truly a safe haven for the children in this community, a true House of Light.
We saw the classrooms which were bright and colorful, a music room needing more instruments, a kitchen with cozy table and chairs, a playground that is in the center of the community, the future team housing area, and the bathrooms which were well planned with a shower, baby changing station, 2 sinks, toothbrush holder station, and 2 toilet stalls one that locked and one that was a curtain for some privacy but not a "locked" in feeling. All of this was created through generous donations.
Read aloud
Here are 2 of the staff that we passed our knowledge on to.
Team building activities
Andrew, John, Ed, Tom, Julie and Mendez worked on tiling the playground edge and with electrical repairs.
It was a great two days of helping those who were so willing to learn.
