Owl

Huge owl hung out in the backyard pine tree.

Resident squirrel was nervous about the owl encroaching on its turf.

Latest Updates to the House

We painted the second bedroom Celestial Blue from a light green color.
We are using this room as an office/craft room for now.
The family room, what we would call the living room needed work as well. There was a dark and heavy book case on top of a cabinet. The best is the pink colored walls.

Minus the shelves...
and the cabinets....
and the sheetrock....

and the 2x4s.....

Mike removing the floor to ceiling mirrors. Can you say 70s?

Soo we will be able to walk easily between the two rooms.
We have seen other homes that show us the potential ours can look at. Looking forward to it all coming together.

Paint and Repair

Back in October when we bought the house we envisioned updates. A great lady named Bev Groth stopped by the house to welcome us and she identified herself as a real estate agent who knew all the houses in the development. I mentioned updates and she volunteered to setup appointments to show us the neighbors house that were the same model as ours and the changes they had made.

So a Saturday (in November) we toured several homes and loved the remodeling they had done. Our imaginations piqued we began to look at what we could in our home. We soon discovered that every wall was weight bearing and we would need help to move them. We had a general contractor come in and price out the changes we wanted. We also had an interior designer give us his input. In January we finally had plans drawn and a bid price. The price to expand mudroom, vault living and dining room ceiling, add a large master bathroom addition, remodel kitchen, update heat and electrical, and the finishing with paint and trim was a whopping $200,000.00.

We quickly decided not to go this route and see what we could do on our own. We decided to tackle the bonus room (a different post) and the mudroom.

We have never had a garage before and after a month realized that the entryway from the garage to the house is the one we would be using exclusively versus the front door which we were accustomed too. So we decided to expanded the mud/laundry room.

I submitted building permits and waited for 2 weeks to get approval. I headed off to Honduras (a different post) the day after approval and the demo had to wait until I returned. On Monday the sheet rock guy came to finish the bonus room for us and I started the mudroom demo. The plan is to remove the closets in the adjoining bedrooms and take out the second entry door into the house. We are moving the blue room closet to where the current guest bathroom shower is, shortening the bathroom by 4 feet. The yellow room closet is on hold until we decide where to place the entrance to the door. The current entrance will become the closet (both entry way closet and bedroom). Waiting on structural designs.

The mudroom was 5x6 and housed a washer and dryer. It was a narrow room that was not welcoming. It had 3 walls of white and one of peach. There were kitchen cabinets hung over the washer/dryer that were also peach. The floor was peel and stick laminate that was scratched and in disrepair. This photo shows the removal of the casement trim. I forgot to take before shots.

Beyond the cabinets there was a little closet that would house mops and brooms. You can see the lines were I removed the closet.

Blue room closet...
is no more...
It use to be a very dark space and with the closet removed it is very bright. Now have to decide if we want to put a high window into the room so we have natural light.

The house is coming along nicely. The yellow room is done and we moved into that room as the temp bedroom, we are working on the master. We pulled out the bath and now need to get the cabinets, tile, etc... .

I started on another bedroom and it is a mess. It is a faint green color that has a million little push pin holes in the wall, major holes by the window from blinds, and they tried to peel off the wallpaper but did not quite succeed so there are spots of remnant paper and glue.

The leaves are all raked in the front and now there are pine needles, yippee!

Snow in the mountains but none here...skiing opens this weekend...hopefully we will be slope side.

Cheers!
