Getting caught up on a few things finally so here's a stab at putting some of the pictures Snoopy and I took coming into Egypt from over the Mediterranean Sea. Flew over a few of the Greek
Isles but didn't get pictures, darn, guess we'll have to go back. There's something about long plane rides that pretty much makes yoga novices become experts straight away. It has a lot to do with the wee little space they give you to curl up in, then throw on top of that that you need room for that little tray to sit flat and still have room to reach for that drink when they hand it to you. Anyway, you do get all unkinked by about the 2nd day back on land so no worries.
Here are a few more pics of us over the snake-like Nile and some shots of a few of the pyramids from the plane!! Haven't seen'm up close and personal yet but maybe this weekend so stay tuned! I don't think these were the Giza pyramids but the one furthest away looks like the step pyramid, one of the first ever built.

As you can see, its a big city and not much in the way of greenery although the area we are in, Ma'adi, is quite lush in comparison. If you Google Earth it you'll see what I mean. I can't wait to go explore it a bit more closely.

For now though doing even the most routine things such as buying groceries and basic household goods is an adventure not least of all because of the language barrier. Here in Ma'adi we are in a bit of an ex-patriot bubble though, there are loads of American goods in the grocery stores, mostly the junk food (ick!) and most of it very expensive in comparison to local products. Nancy found out that 3 rolls of Brawny paper towels was 43 EP (egyptian pounds) while the local brand is less than 5 EP. That's almost $7.50 vs $0.86.
Still, every place delivers here, even McDonald's. This solves the problem of no vehicle and how we're going to manage to get food and water and so forth back to our flat.
Our flat is nicely located for a convenient walk to the school, a mall, groceries and homegoods, the metro are all no more than a 15 minute walk away. Haven't walked to the Nile yet but I think it may be about a 25-30 minute walk. The local kids play soccer out in the street most evenings, it's not a busy street for vehicle traffic which is nice and quite unlike a few other roads nearby. I think the traffic and driving topic (the things I've seen!) warrants its own blog so I'll leave that for another day. Well that's all for now, time to go get some fruits and vegetables so we can start eating more healthy.
Thanks for the comments on previous blogs! It's great to see someones actually reading our ramblings! Feel free to throw out any questions you may be bursting to ask and we'll try to answer them as best we can. I'll be working on a culinary blog since I know many of you were interested in the food we'd be subjecting ourselves to, so look for that in the near future as well.
The pictures we took in the flat were taken at night, thus the darkness outside.
