Painting with Color

Painting with Color

The house is monochromatic white. The ceilings, mop boards and crown molding where pretty much the same color and the walls were one shade darker so there was no depth or personality to the rooms. Since this might be our age in place home we decided to go for colors that make us happy.

The first phase is to place a bunch of contender sample swatches on the walls and look at them during different time periods throughout the day to see what we liked. I know they do not look like it but they are all in the yellow brown family.

The first column third row won for the front room and foyer, Cupola Yellow from Sherwin Williams. We started to paint on Friday but we were interrupted a few times by repair people coming to the house to explain what needed fixing, the cost to do so and the time frame. Hence this wall does not look great in this photo because it has not been edged completely. I am in the bottom left of the photo edging that area. Mike is much faster at painting the big spaces than me doing the detail work. I was behind all day.

We ran out of daylight and this room has no over head lights so after holding the drop light for each other for a while we called it quits and cleaned up and went home. Yes, I know, crazy that I left it looking like this.

Saturday I was sick with a stomach bug and we basically drove out to the new house sat in it for 10 minutes and then drove back to the apartment. I crashed all day and slept away the pain.

Sunday we were back at it and we finished the wall color on the front room and touch ups to the ceilings. Still need to paint the crown molding. Once that is done the rug will get ripped out and we will paint the mop boards. So close to one room complete.

We had welcome company around 11am with Mary and Maggie coming to check out the new place. We gave them the tour with all the high hopes of remodeling yet to come.

We then completed the foyer. Loads of door trim to be careful around. Yes this is the same color as the room above. Light makes a tremendous difference as to what color it is.

Next is deciding if we want to continue this color down the hall and into the dining room or mix it up and go with another color.

Up go the color swatches again and we decide the hall would be too dark so a new color it is. Which color I cannot remember as we have changed our minds so many times. When we left it was going to be Solé (Sherwin Williams). When we got home Mike started the process again and I have no idea what we agreed on.

Monday is finishing the crown molding on the front room and foyer and hopefully pulling up the rug. We are limited on time due to the lack of light in the house. We did put up the bedroom lights and hall lights now that the ceilings are dry so hopefully when we get back from our beach vacation we can stay later and accomplish more.
