Flickr

Who uses Flickr?

I started to upload my images and can see a great use for this in the classroom. Either you or the children can upload an image and then annotate it. You can also password protect the images for safety reasons.

Just think about how you could use a map in Social Studies and have the kids label the cities, states, rivers, mountain ranges or any other aspect on a map.

You could post a folder of insects and have them label them.

They could post a collage of images and explain what each item means to them.

You could post a crime scene and have them reveal the clues.

They could use the images in their presentations. (always provide the source)

It is so exciting.

The kids could copy the image into their own account and then annotate their thoughts and opinions. These are a few questions that I thought of when I saw the image. Can you add more to mine?

1. How does the collage make you feel?
2. What photos stands out to you and why?
3. If you could trade paces with one photo which would you choose and why?
4. Why do you think the photographer selected these images to make a collage?
5. Describe a day in the life of one of the photos.
6. Create your own collage.

How are you using images within your classroom? How do you feel about the publishing of photos to a world audience? Do you think Flickr could be a benefit to your students?

Come check out my photos at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/gilamonsta/

Cheers!

I've had the students do a book of geometric shapes. They had to find the shapes around the school, take a digital picture and include a definition. They were assigned 2 shapes each. They could then post them here and each child could make their own book.

I love this Flickr idea. I wonder if it would work for ESL students to label maps/diagrams/etc. in their native languages.

A neat application would be for Beginning ESL students to take photos around campus during their first week at their new school, and then label the photos with names of classrooms, staff, teachers -- adding (if possible) a sentence describing the place or activity or purpose of the place.

Sandy, I did something similiar where they added them to a PowerPoint and drew the angles on them. Great idea to add the definition. Love the idea of putting them up on Flickr.

Beth, the students can annotate them in their own language or English as you see fit. They can also add a photostream of their work on their blog.
