So a Saturday (in November) we toured several homes and loved the remodeling they had done. Our imaginations piqued we began to look at what we could in our home. We soon discovered that every wall was weight bearing and we would need help to move them. We had a general contractor come in and price out the changes we wanted. We also had an interior designer give us his input. In January we finally had plans drawn and a bid price. The price to expand mudroom, vault living and dining room ceiling, add a large master bathroom addition, remodel kitchen, update heat and electrical, and the finishing with paint and trim was a whopping $200,000.00.
We quickly decided not to go this route and see what we could do on our own. We decided to tackle the bonus room (a different post) and the mudroom.
We have never had a garage before and after a month realized that the entryway from the garage to the house is the one we would be using exclusively versus the front door which we were accustomed too. So we decided to expanded the mud/laundry room.
I submitted building permits and waited for 2 weeks to get approval. I headed off to Honduras (a different post) the day after approval and the demo had to wait until I returned. On Monday the sheet rock guy came to finish the bonus room for us and I started the mudroom demo. The plan is to remove the closets in the adjoining bedrooms and take out the second entry door into the house. We are moving the blue room closet to where the current guest bathroom shower is, shortening the bathroom by 4 feet. The yellow room closet is on hold until we decide where to place the entrance to the door. The current entrance will become the closet (both entry way closet and bedroom). Waiting on structural designs.
The mudroom was 5x6 and housed a washer and dryer. It was a narrow room that was not welcoming. It had 3 walls of white and one of peach. There were kitchen cabinets hung over the washer/dryer that were also peach. The floor was peel and stick laminate that was scratched and in disrepair. This photo shows the removal of the casement trim. I forgot to take before shots.
