Good Morning!! Thought I'd throw up a post on our weekend trip to the beach! We joined some friends to celebrate a birthday at a beach about two and a half hours away from Cairo called Ras Sudr. There is nothing between here and there of note, well lots of brown desert landscape, but that's about all. Speaking of notes, Sarah kept us entertained by singing show tunes and other diddies, we joined in with her on the ones we knew, causing much agony to our bus driver, but it made the time go by...

If you're looking for it on a map, follow the road from Cairo to the Suez Canal then south about thirty kilometers or so. Ras Sudr is a small town on the west coast of the Sinai Penninsula and the Ramada resort we stayed in is a favorite of Windsurfers and Kiteboarders. Our first visit to the Red Sea!!! A few of the folks here at CAC are big kiteboarding fanatics and we got to see some of them doing their thing while we soaked up some rays. Here's a few shots of the hotel area that I took early friday morning before the wind picked up....

Most of time was spent on the beach, but we also enjoyed the pool area a little each afternoon. Here is a shot of the beach, it was not crowded at all and you sank up to your ankles in the sand. The water was very shallow and sandy for maybe a hundred or so yards out where it dropped off sharply. We found several Sanddollars, apparently they are fairly common over here, but Nancy was excited anyway!

You could almost think you were on some beach in the caribbean, except when you see something like this strolling down the beach.......

Once the sun was well up, there was a constant breeze that was blowing, making this an ideal spot for windsurfing and kiteboarding. (Julie, don't look!) The kiteboarding looked like something Tom and the boys would absolutely LOVE! so I had to include a few shots of one of the twenty or more folks out here zipping around attached to these big kites. It's a lot like waterskiing...until you leave the surface of the water, then its like skateboarding or acrobatic skiing. Still trying to figure out everything my camera can do so I caught a few of them doing some tricks. I might have found a new hobby!

Check it out!!

We had a great time enjoying a relaxing weekend and we were picked up by our van driver at 3pm for the trek back. Everyone was looking forward to a nice snooze and most of us were almost there when we noticed the driver seemed to think a snooze was a good idea as well. This perked everyone up and so we began to sing songs again just to try to keep the driver awake. We dragged every song we knew out of the closet, and the noisier the better...This story will go down as the time "Old MacDonald had a Farm" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" saved our lives!!
